Seo, J. W. (IBM Rüschlikon, Switzerland): Growth of self assembled crystals of SWCNTs
The synthesis of crystals containing well ordered SWCNTs has been reported recently (Science) The method was co-deposition of C60 and Ni on a patterned Mo surface at 950 C.
In the talk it was disclosed that the paper is basically wrong. The reason is that MoO has a lot of different crystal configurations. MoO is together with SWNTs.
Conclusion: Mo is a bad substrate because of temperature dependence and annealing time dependence.
Comment from Berkley : tried to reprodue the results. Can make similar looking crystals with no C at all!
Comment: one should make radial breathing mode Raman because this is characteristic of SWNTS. MWNTs have almost no RBM!
