Mertig, Michael (Dresden, Germany):Nucleation and growth of metal clusters on a DNA template
DNA as template for metal nanoclusters
- Manipulation of DNA
- Anchoring on Au surface
- Stretching and alignment (between the contacts) by hydrodynamic flow
- Metallization of DNA
- Create nucleation centres
- Growth of Pt clusters
- Conductivity measurements: 10-4 Ohm cm ohmic resistance! From T dependence: there is a weak e- localization, 2D e- gas.
Pt clusters grow differently on different bases of DNA!
Future: complex structures, molecular machines, base specific metallization (possibility of device (e.g. tranistor) fabrication).
Possibility to make 3D structures (cf litography is 2D).
